Changing for a Wedding Reception

It can be so difficult to choose just one perfect dress for your special day. With so many different options to choose from, there is no need to pick just one. If you want to have multiple looks on your wedding day, this is a great way to show off different sides of your personality. Plus, it can be a functional maneuver – you might don a giant ball gown for the ceremony and then slip into something more fun when you’re ready to celebrate!

Two looks, complete with a change in accessories and jewelry, can help with the flow of the day. For example, if you are having a traditional ceremony or even a whimsical garden wedding and then moving into a cool lounge atmosphere for the reception, your full outfit can set the tone for each venue. Before you head out to shop, decide why you want multiple looks. Once you figure out your “why”, you will be able to find the second look that suits your needs.

Two Times the Fun

You may want to shine in two different ensembles, but it can be overwhelming. Learn how to handle this like a pro!

  1. Plan ahead and coordinate. First, decide how many outfit changes you want and select each accordingly. You will need to plot out jewelry and accessories for each outfit so they are all cohesive. Don’t plan to keep the same jewelry for two different gowns as it may not work for each.
  2. Match or even mix. You might be able to use a couple of versatile jewelry pieces for different looks, but be ready to switch out some as well. Experiment with different jewelry combinations with each outfit in order to show off your own personal style.
  3. Check the schedule. Figure out when an outfit change will fit into your day. Check with your wedding planner and photographer to make sure you have enough time. An outfit change can take up to 15-30 minutes so be sure it doesn’t take away from your enjoyment. A fun way to showcase an outfit change is to enter and toast your guests. Or wait until after dinner and come back ready to hit the dance floor.

Making a Statement

If you are drawn to the idea of two separate looks but can’t fit it in or just love your gown too much to change out of it, consider changing up your jewelry and accessories only. You can refresh your style and give yourself a new look while you pop the bubbly. Consider some statement jewelry, a different head piece, a pop of color in your shoes, or even fun sneakers. Your brand-new spouse can do the same – maybe swap out for a fun tie and shoes to show guests you are both ready to cut loose and celebrate!

If you do opt for a dramatic look at the reception, think about what this looks like for you. It can be a good chance to honor cultural roots or just go bold with a bright-colored dress.

There are no rules for your wedding day so have fun and let your personality shine through! The modern wedding is more about a couple enjoying their day. Simply follow your own path and be true to yourself – this will keep you sparkling all day long.
