Did your holiday come with a gift in a very small box? If your answer is a resounding “YES!” then you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed with what to do first. Don’t worry. Take a deep breath and use our guide to the first steps in your new life as an engaged couple.

Top Seven Things to Do After You Say Yes

  1. Enjoy some time together:
Everyone is so connected on social media, but it’s okay to take a few moments before sharing your big news with family, friends, and social platforms. Soak in the feeling of your engagement – just the two of you. Pop some champagne and close yourselves into an engaged bubble as long as you want.

  2. Get a manicure:
Your hands are going to be in the spotlight and will be front and center in every photograph for the near future.

  3. Announce to family and friends:
As soon as you are ready to start spreading the news be sure to begin with your family and then your closest friends. Stay off social media for now! Once all of your VIPs are in on the news, you can start thinking about crafting the perfect post to make your official social media announcement.

  4. Size and insure your ring:
We can agree that sending your ring to the jeweler when you want to show it off is not ideal, but it’s better than having it slip off your finger and get lost. While you are taking care of this task, be sure to get jewelry insurance for your new sparkler. This is the only way to assure it will be replaced if lost or stolen.

  5. Plan an engagement party:
With COVID still an issue, consider a virtual party to officially announce your engagement.

  6. Find a photographer and take engagement photos:
This is a great way to remember a special time in your life. Some photographers even offer free engagement photos with the purchase of a wedding package, so shop around and ask about this service before hiring.

  7. Get inspired:
Start browsing web sites and magazines to draw inspiration for when you are ready to begin your wedding plans. Archive anything that catches your eye and once you begin the planning process you will have a clearer vision of what your special day will look like.

The best way to enjoy the beginning of your new life together is to find ways to slow down and appreciate this journey. Wedding planning can get hectic, but with some careful thought you can make sure this exciting and special time stays just that way.
