5 Winter Jewelry Trends

Winter Trends

They say that clothes make the woman, but at Lavalier we know that a well-chosen accessory can elevate even the dullest outfit. This is especially true in winter, when your best assets are bundled underneath coats, scarves, and hats. Here, we choose some of the most popular trends from winter fashion shows and offer suggestions for how you can incorporate them into your own personal style.

Padlocks

We’re used to seeing the key as a motif for necklaces (particularly at Tiffany & Co.) but Chanel is taking the ‘key to my heart’ metaphor to new heights with their padlock jewelry, and they haven’t just limited the theme to necklaces. Chanel takes on another recent trend: body chains, with this tweed-covered padlock belt. Rihanna and Kristen Stewart have both been spotted sporting Chanel’s padlock jewelry. You could spend thousands on the designer version, or just dip your toes into the trend with one of these styles.

Chokers and Collars

Forget the scarf – this winter it’s all about chokers and collars. Balenciaga’s textured choker, Givenchy’s crystal collars, and tribal necklaces from Vivienne Westwood and Etro are shining examples of the ways you can make this style your own. While big and chunky is definitely in this season, we’re particularly fond of flat, metallic collars and bibs. Here are our three picks, including a mixed material silver and leather choker that’s so on trend, and a Nicole Richie favorite from her line, House of Harlow.

Nature Themes

The trees are bare and the grass may be covered in snow or slush, but things are in bloom in the fashion world. Many runway accessories this season are all about nature, so you bohemian girly girls are in luck! Floral necklines added pop to several outfits during fashion week, and designers like Dolce & Gabbana, Dries Van Noten, Simone Rocha, Fendi, Oscar de la Renta, and Givenchy each had a take on it. If you’re not a flower girl, bejewel your totes, bracelets, purses, or sweaters with other nature motifs, like butterflies, leaves, or insects.

Dolce Gabanna

Dolce & Gabbana Flower Bracelet, $618

Aurelie

Aurélie Bidermann Fine Sapphire & Gold Scarab Beetle Charm, $6,640

Alexander McQueen Salamander

Icicle Motifs

The icicle is like the grownup version of the snowflake. Ditch those flaky charms and pendants and upgrade your style to something a bit “cooler.” This shape is perfect for winter, but subtle enough that you can wear it all year round (unlike the aforementioned snowflake). Pair icicle earrings with an updo to show off those lobes, or wear an edgy necklace á la Charlize Theron. These designs are sure to make you melt.

Diamond Dagger Necklace

Lana Diamond Earrings

Mizuki Necklace

Single Earrings

We know what you’re thinking: single earrings? Isn’t that just a guy thing? But this trend is taking off in a big way. Celebrities like perennial best-dressed favorite Emma Watson and style-savvy Gwyneth Paltrow are even rocking the look on the red carpet. This statement showed up in fashion shows from Céline to Louis Vuitton to Isabel Marant this season, so if you’ve got a jewelry box full of earrings with lost partners, break them out!

Givenchy Single Earring

Givenchy Double Shark Magnetic Single Earring, $650

Khazzam Earring

Sharon Khazzam Multi Gemstone Norma Earring, $3,750

Grace Lee Single Earring

Grace Lee Diamond & Pearl Arc Earring, $595

The single earring trend should be a choice – not something you’re forced to wear because you’ve misplaced all your matches. With jewelry insurance from Lavalier, you’ll be in style long after this fad dies down.
